Enterprise Data Plan for iPhone is NOT needed
From what I can tell, the Enterprise Data Plan for the iPhone 3G is absolutely unnecessary. When I was in the store the salesman asked me if I planned on getting Exchange email on this phone, or if it was just personal. I said, mainly personal, but I’ll be checking my exchange email too. He told me I had to get the $45/month data plan in order to do that. I told him that was impossible, there’s no way I need a more expensive plan just to check exchange email. I felt pretty confident from everything I’ve read online that I only needed the (already expensive) additional $30/month plan. He told me that I needed it because “they” put it in the system that way. I told him to just give me the $30/month plan, and he said to call him back if I needed to change my plan, or just to let him know if it does work without the $45 plan. Well, I got my new toy home and set it up and the exchange connection seems to work just fine, no problems. I’ll let you know if that suddenly changes, but from what I’ve seen online now researching this, people are saying they can all access exchange email just fine on the personal plan. So, don’t let AT&T upsell you, it’s a lie, you get nothing from the more expensive plan. I haven’t gotten the VPN connection to work yet, but I don’t really need it to check exchange email at my company, and I might just have it configured wrong. That’s the only conceivable thing I can imagine AT&T blocking on the personal plan. But I’m not 100% sure it is blocked.
